Working from home has become so commonplace that most people have created their own working oasis away from the office. As people who are also working from home and testing out their own home office must-haves, we want to make sure that you can create a conducive space for your own work habits without all the troublesome tests and trials.

We know how overwhelming it can be to browse through the multitude of different home-office options, especially since many of them are rather pricey or might even take up a lot of your prized free space. We too often see people equip their entire home office space, only to have the furniture be uncomfortable or non-functional. We’re here to make sure that this doesn’t happen to you; we’ve really put each piece of furniture to the test so that you can get back to the important work!

WFH Modern will help you find the best desk for those awkward spaces, choose the right inviting decor, or decide on the best storage for all of your supplies. A home-office set-up can make or break your work experience; our goal is to make sure that the time you do spend working at home is the most productive that it can be. We have comprehensive desks, chairs, lamps, exercise mats, whiteboards, and storage guides.

    How this works

We make sure to test out every product mentioned on WFH Modern, whether it’s as small as a piece of stationary or as large as a desk setup. Each piece will be taken through our own workdays at home and any specific pros and cons throughout the process.

We have a multi-step review process depending on the product in question. In general, here is how we approach each review:

    • First, we identify the most desired and top-rated work from home furniture pieces and then bring them into our own spaces to test them out for ourselves. We always purchase each piece ourselves and never accept free or discounted items from manufacturers; our reviews are kept completely unbiased and fair.
    • The person who is researching and trialing the products is the same person who will be writing the article. Throughout the trial process, the writer will keep detailed notes on how the fragrance wears and how the packaging stands up over time. If any changes occur after the article has been published, then the writer will be sure to post detailed updates.
    • We make sure to update any changes to equipment models and answer community inquiries as they arise.

Why are you writing for WFH Modern?

I enjoy writing about office products and learning about new furniture that I could

add to my home office setup.

What is your current home office setup like?

I have a desktop PC with a curved monitor placed on a triangular table.

For sitting, I use a Secret Lad gaming chair.

What is office chair do you recommend the most?

I recommend office chairs that have advanced ergonomics. Ideally good lumbar

support and adjustable armrest should be included in the design.

What is your favorite style of a desk?

I like height-adjustable desks because you can stand while working.

How do you keep your workspace tidy?

I make sure to clean up at the end of the workday.

What is your storage situation like?

I don’t have storage solutions since most of what I need is on the computer.

How do you personalize your home office space?

I do not personalize my home office space.

    Alizabeth Swain

Alizabeth has always made her living working from home. She loves the flexibility and enjoys being in her own space. She also understands how important it is to have a dedicated office space and be able to turn off work mode at the end of the day. At WFH Modern, she shares all of that knowledge with you and helps you find the best office solutions for your space!

What is your current home office setup like?

My current home office is in my front entryway. My house has kind of a weird setup, but it’s in its own little room. I’ve got a giant bay window that I sit in front of. I can see a part of the Chesapeake Bay that’s right next to my house from my window!

What is office chair do you recommend the most?

I have a SIHOO Ergonomic office chair. I love the headrest that comes with it; it gives me a great place to stretch my neck throughout the day.

What is your favorite style of a desk?

A standing desk! I have a 6-month-old, so I’ll throw him in a baby carrier and stand at my desk all day. That way, I can mom and work at the same time!

How do you keep your workspace tidy?

I take 15-minute breaks every few hours. I’ll grab whatever mess I made in that 15 minutes and clean it up. I always vacuum once a day, too; I’m a neat freak.

What is your storage situation like?

I don’t really need too much storage; I’ve got a laptop, some books, pens, paper, and a printer. I keep all of my cables wrapped up with cable boxes I got on Amazon (thanks, TikTok)!

How do you personalize your home office space?

I’ve got family pictures all around my office. They remind me of moments that I’m working towards; I want more happiness in my family, so working to supply financially to my family means I can have more of those moments.

    Denine Walters

Denine likes to keep her space simple and minimal with a focus on the comfort and ergonomics of her workspace. She knows how important it is to be comfortable during a long day at your desk. She also understands how difficult it can be to keep your workspace tidy and organized. She uses this knowledge to bring you the best information and recommendations about home office products.

Why are you writing for WFH Modern?

I’m writing for WFH Modern because I want to help the readers make the best possible decision for their office set up, and give them valuable, usable info. I also want to share all the available options there are, with the pros and cons so that the reader can make the best decision for them. Plus, I love imagining different office setups.

What is your current home office setup like?

I have a computer desk and an executive chair (not the best for long hours of sitting but saving up for something that offers more ergonomics and comfort). I have my iMac with a keyboard and trackpad and a little USB slot tower so I can easily plug in the chargers for my phone, battery pack, and Fitbit. I also have a whiteboard so I can plan my work for 2-3 weeks at a time and a diary-type notebook so I can keep track of work and make sure I don’t miss anything. I keep some pens on my desk, and then I also have a pedestal for storage. And an eco-friendly light that’s bright against the wall that I use instead of the normal lighting.

What is office chair do you recommend the most?

Depends on how much sitting you do. I would recommend a state-of-the-art executive office chair with all the bells and whistles or a proper gaming chair for those of us who sit long hours, and where a chair that doesn’t provide comfort and ergonomic feature is a deal-breaker. If you only sit for an hour or so, then something like a task chair with ergonomic features is good.

But if you have a desk at the right height, then sitting on a yoga ball is also pretty cool and good exercise.

What is your favorite style of a desk?

I like a standing desk, especially one that can also function when you sit because it gives you more options for how you work. But a computer desk that has plenty of space for my Mac, laptop, notebook/notepad, pens, as well as storage so I can try to keep my desk organized is also a winner in my books.

I like a minimalist writing desk for “me corner” – where I can have a cup of tea in peace, work through The Artist’s Way,  journal, and color.

How do you keep your workspace tidy?

 I try to. But I periodically clean out any papers with notes I’ve kept, wipe the surface, clean my PC, and get rid of anything I don’t currently use – either storing it in one of the drawers or throwing it away.

What is your storage situation like?

I have a free-standing pedestal with four drawers that I use for storage. The pedestal is in my office area, so I keep extra stationery in 1 to 2 of the drawers and then store notes and admin in the other drawers.

I also have an office cabinet in one of the other rooms where I store the rest of my office stuff.

How do you personalize your home office space?

I personalize my home office with the “You light up my life” mug my sister gave me, the “shiny happy birthday cake topper with butterflies” from a few years ago, a few photo frames with photos/memories that mean a lot to me, I also have 3-4 small pot plants on my pedestal – a Swiss cheese plant, a pink anthurium, a money tree, and a mini succulent garden in a pot. I also have some butterfly prints against the little wall space I have, and I like to think that the garden and swimming pool I see through the window forms part of my office space personalization.
